Bien Hoa Today
D Battery, 6th Battalion, 56th Artillery (HAWK) was station at Bien Hoa Airbase. The battery was located at the northwest corner outside the base at the bend in the Song Dong Nai River. On 6 October 1966 B Battery was hit by an unknown number of VC (est 10 persons) with small arms and automatic weapons. The battery sustained no friendly casualties. One VC KIA is suspected due to blood found on the trail leading from the site.
On 22 August 1968 D Battery, 6th Battalion, 56th Artillery received damages from a stand-off rocket attack against Bien Hoa Airbase. Two personnel were injured.
The battery withstood all communist offensives, including the Tet offensive.
Bien Hoa Airbase was closed in 2002.
