John A. Mayfield enlisted in the U.S. Army on 23 August 1963 at Philadelphia, PA. He completed basic training at Fort Gordon, GA and Operations Central and Coder Decoder Repairman training at Fort Bliss, TX. After advance individual training Mr. Mayfield was assigned to the 86th Signal Detachment, 30th Artillery Brigade (Air Defense), Okinawa. In January 1966 Mr. Mayfield reenlisted for an assignment to the Republic of Vietnam. Mr. Mayfield spent two weeks, the longest two weeks of his life at the 90th Replacement Battalion, Vietnam while the Army tried to figure out what to do with him. On June 5, 1966 Mr. Mayfield was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 6th Battalion, 56th Artillery, Binh Hoa, Vietnam. After completion of his Vietnam tour Mr. Mayfield requested assignment back to the 30th Artillery Brigade on Okinawa. From Okinawa, Mr. Mayfield was assigned to White Sands Missile Range (W.S.M.R.), NM, as a Test and Evaluation Supervisor. Part of Mr. Mayfield’s duties was to write computer programs to test and evaluate hardware and software equipment for the U.S. Army. Mr. Mayfield met his wife the former Arline (Dagenais) at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico where they both served together in the U.S. Army and they were married in El Paso, Texas on 30 January 1970. At W.S.M.R. Mr. Mayfield requested duty with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. After Recruiter training Mr. Mayfield was assigned to Philadelphia, PA. After his assignment with the Recruiting Command Mr. Mayfield was assigned to Fort Bliss, TX as a Technical Publication Writer. While at Fort Bliss, TX. Mr. Mayfield was selected for assignment as a Technical Assistance Field Team (TAFT), Senior Technical Advisor, Air Defense Command and Control Systems, Egyptian Air defense Institute Egypt (IHAWK TAFT Egypt). Mr. Mayfield retired as a Sergeant First Class after 21 years of active duty.
After retirement from the U.S Army Mr. Mayfield worked for, Litton Data Systems, as a Senior System Test & Integration Engineer, with Singer Librascope as a Program Manager System Engineering & Integration, with SOTA Electronics as the Vice President Operation and owner of Mayfield Financial & Business Services, a Income Tax and Bookkeeping company. In 2006 Mr. Mayfield received his California Real Estate Agent license and began his career in real estate with Keller Williams Realty of the Antelope Valley. In 2010 Mr Mayfield received his real estate broker license and became a Broker Associate with Keller Williams Realty. On July 8, 2011 Mr. Mayfield opened Mayfield Realty in Palmdale, California.
Mr. Mayfield was also the Chairman of the City of Palmdale Planning Commission for over 20 years.
